BUMI: Coal Hilirization. Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) will diversify its business into the hilirization of coal industry. This is done to increase the selling value of coal. Now the BUMI is conducting feasibility studies.
Furthermore, the gasification of this coal is also claim as an endorsement of the government’s plan to reduce the import of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), using the raw materials of coal in lieu of the gasification or downstream of these coal.
Moreover, Director and Corporate Secretary of the BUMI, Dileep Srivastava said that this plan is still in the discussion of the company. In addition to, the Hilirization project is currently in the stage of feasibility study. As well as, hopefully complete as soon as possible. On the other hand, Dileep has not been able to convey the investments. In addition to, they prepare to improve this downstream project.
For the record, through gasification technology, coal will be transform into a high-value end product. As well as, this technology will convert young coal into syngas to be process into dimethyl ether (DME) as the substitution of LPG, urea as fertilizer, and polypropylene as plastic raw material.
In addition to the hilirization of the coal, BUMI also has plans to diversify their income sources by starting gold production. From Citra Palu in this year and the production of zinc from Dairi Prima Mineral.
Furthermore, while expanding its business lines, BUMI is now continuously optimizing its operational activities. This year the BUMI is aiming at production of 87 million metric tons to 90 million metric tons. Moreover, until June 2019, the production of Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) amount to 27.2 million tonnes of Arutmin Indonesia as much as 13.3 million tonnes, resulting in a total of 40.5 million tonnes of coal.
Last, BUMI also continues to strengthen market share and prioritize coal supply to domestic market. As well as, BUMI is also seeking to obtain long-term contracts in supplying coal to the nearest Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) plant.
